Kareri Lake

Celebrate this year’s Christmas at Kareri Lake. It is located near Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 2950 meters. It is a shallow fresh water lake. It lies amidst Dhauladhar Range of Himalayas. Dhauladar Range acts as a water source for this lake owing to melting of snow. The trail till Kareri Lake is through forest of Oak, Pine and Rhododendron trees. The area around the lake also serves as base camp for Minkiani and Bleni Pass. It is a quaint beautiful village which is connected to Dharamshala through a motorable road though condition of the road is not that good. Groh, Chadi and Ghera are the villages on the way from Dharamshala to Kareri village. At Kareri village you will be able to behold the glimpses of Indrahara Pass and Moon Peak which is the highest peak of Dhauladhar Range.

Itinerary


Day 1 -The day starts with an early morning pick up in pre-arranged shared cabs from Dharamshala bus stand at around 06:00 AM.
The 27 km journey from Dharamshala to Kareri village takes about 1.5 hours. After this short journey, have breakfast at Kareri village. The trekkers would be given packed lunch and the trek starts at around 10:00 AM after briefing. One can catch a glimpse of beautiful farms and village huts during the initial trails of the trek. Initial trek of 2 km is through an under construction road. The forest trail starts after taking a right turn from bridge on this road. The trail goes alongside the Nyund River. This river serves as source of water during the whole trek. The river acts as your companion during the entire trek and the soothing sound of water gushing through the forest and over the rocks provides a meditating effect to the mind. Forest trail is a steep climb. After having lunch en route, reach Rioti, the camping site for first day. It is an ideal place to camp. Snacks and soup would be served at around 6″00 PM and dinner at around 08:00 PM. If weather permits, you can relax sitting near bonfire.
Day 2 –Morning tea would be served at 06:30 AM. Post that, partake in a brief yoga and muscle relaxing session under guidance of an expert who is a certified cross fit trainer too. Breakfast would be served at around 8:00 AM. The trek starts by 9:00 AM from Rioti towards Kareri Lake after getting packed lunch. Reach Kareri Lake by 2:00 PM. Interested people can explore the area, visit the lord Shiva Temple. Kareri Lake serves as the base camp for Minkiani and Bleni Pass. Evening snacks would be served at around 5:00 PM, soup at 6:00 PM and dinner at 8:00 PM. Camp overnight at Kareri Lake and enjoy sitting near bonfire if weather permits. Also indulge in some activities during evening time.
Day 3 -This would be a long day compared to previous 2 days but not tough as you would descend through entire route. Morning tea would be served at 6:30 and followed by Yoga and Muscle relaxing sessions. Breakfast would be served at 8:00 AM. Since this is a long day, everyone would be provided packed lunch.
The trek starts at 9:00 AM from Kareri Lake towards Kareri Village using same route as you took while ascending. Reach Kareri village by 5:30 PM. From Kareri village, move in to pre-arranged shared vehicles that will take you towards Dharamshala. Reach Dharamshala bus stand by 7:30 PM.
